Key Technical Achievements of the Division.
- Under Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission Project, digital data base for various themes viz., Base layer, Hydrology, Lithology, Structures and Geomorphology has been generated for Punjab and UT Chandigarh. This information will be useful in establishing relationship between ground water and geomorphological features and narrow down the area of investigation for ground water targeting and selection of sites for recharge structures. Delineation and characterization of different landforms will serve as the basic input to ascertain the transformation for future land use planning and development of an area. In addition, the water quality layer will provide the first hand information to the planners before installing a new tubewell in any area and help in planning accordingly.
- The work carried out under Creation of Digital Database for Water Sources in Punjab Project is first of its kind and it has highlighted the pockets where water quality is not fit for drinking purpose. Based on the recommendations made, the DWSS Officials can adopt proper ameliorative measures to ascertain the potablity of the drinking water being supplied to the villagers. Further, the database will help the DWSS officials in planning the new sites in these districts in a scientific manner.
- The Launching of Punjab State Geoportal on Bhuvan Portal of National Remote Sensing Centre, Development of Web GIS / Desktop GIS / Mobile GIS Applications by Geoinformatics Division (Headed by self) made Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC) a strong contender for India Geospatial Excellence Award. PRSC got “India Geospatial Excellence Award” on March 2, 2016 during GeoSMART India - 2016, held at India Expo Mart, Greater Noida.
