Profile
Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC), an autonomous organisation under the Department
of Agriculture, Government of Punjab, is the apex body in the state for all Remote
Sensing (RS), Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System
(GPS) and related works. It is designated as a Nodal Agency by the Govt. of Punjab
for geospatial needs of the state and also acts as the centralized hub for the geo-spatial
data to all the user departments.
PRSC has been setup under the umbrella of National Natural Resources Information
System (NNRMS) under the technical guidance of ISRO NNRMS.
ABOUT SPACE APPLICATIONS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (SAMS)
Erstwhile Natural Resource Management System (NNRMS) established in 1985 is now SPACE APPLICATIONS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (SAMS) from March2021. The SAMS frame work comprises of a Planning Committee of SAMS (PC-SAMS) supported by ten them specific standing committees. PC-SAMS as the apex body empowered to oversee the SAMS activities provide policy guidelines and endorse fund requirements for implementation of space applications. The PC-SAMS identify thrust areas, data and applications needs and mechanism to ensure maximal utilization of space technology in respective thematic areas.
PC-SAMS is chaired by Principal Scientific Advisor to Government of India, with Secretaries and senior officials of the user ministries/Departments as Member. The standing committees are chaired by the Secretaries to the Government of India.
The Secretariat of PC-SAMS is located at Earth Observation Applications & Disaster management support Programme Office (EDPO), ISRO HQ, Bangalore. Director, EDPO is serving as the Secretary of PC-SAMS.
